  2. No, Inception was a limited release(300 prints).

2012 and Avatar were Bollywood type release almost, ~ 800 Prints and released all over in plexes and single screens.

2012 did 110 cr Gross(65-70 cr nett) and Avatar did 120 cr Gross(70-75 cr nett). They created havoc to say the least.

The numbers of 2012 and Avatar are comparable to Bollywood hits like AJAB,LAK,Wanted(100-110 cr Gross) etc.

  3. Wow, also it makes sense because Inception was not exactly BW like movie, whereas Avatar and 2012 were.
This makes me wonder, when a cerebral movie, with limited release and OFC limited audience can do so well, why do we blame our audience for not liking better movies? Ala Raavan...

Doesn't it in a way mean that our movies are stupid, whereas our audience is pretty smart, they want something which complements their smartness not ask them to leave their brain at home.

Doga do you see more HW movies reaching this feat anytime soon? Or you think only VFX heavy movies can do something like this?

  7. Avatar is releasing again at the end of this month with an extra 9 minutes in the US.

It's stunning that Hollywood is starting to make so much money in India. What I don't get it is if they dub their movies in a so many local languages in India, why doesn't BW do the same?
