The Also rans

These are not the actors movies revolves around, but they sure are better than most of the stars around. Their job is to be the loser guys, the most important part of the movies, the ones who make heroes look even more heroic. Sometimes when by mistake they get hero type role in the movie, the product is no doubt better, though not as successful.

Ritesh Deshmukh: Started his innings as an actor from a lesser known movie, Tujhe Meri Kassam, which has uncanny resemblance with JTYJN, so much so that even the actress is same, Genelia., Needless to say what inspired what, movie though was not as successful as the rip off, though was lot better in content. All these years he might not have very many successful movies, but surely content wise real good ones have been there all along, Kya kool hain hum, Apna sapna, Bluffmaster, Rann, Dhamal, Aladin and Jaane kahan se.. these are some of his flicks that I enjoyed. OFC not many would have seen them, but I do recommend them. Language might be a little issue if you are sensitive kinds, but all the double meaning dialogues are there to add fun, not cheapness. Not just that, he is also a fine actor, in comedy there are not many who can come close to him, even Abhishek was second best in Bluffmaster, in serious movies like Rann he has again shown his mettle. He is a very fine actor, who is making his presence felt in the industry, in small but significant way.

Sharman Joshi: Got his biggest hit in 3Idiots, a  movie which definitely doesn't do justice to his acting abilities. He was launched in BW with a very small budgeted movie, Style. But movie sure did make a huge impact on then college going populace, spl its songs like "Style mein rehne ka" and the song which literally swept away the entire nation "Excuse me". His filmography might not include very many movies, or the most successful ones, but surely some of the finest performances in past few years, like in RDB, Life in a Metro, Dhol, Golmaal.  Till now Sharman has shown his forte in comedy, with Allah ke Bandey he is all set to show serious side of his acting abilities. I am confident that he will be a great actor, no matter the outcome of the product.

Kunal Khemu: Not only a brilliant first name, he also has really really good acting potential. Made his debut in film industry as a kid, did movies like Hum hain rahi pyar ke, and since that age his talent was for all to see. If HHRPK had Kunal as a naughty kid, Zakhm had him in complete reversal as a nice sensitive kid who is desperately trying to understand complex human relations between his parents. With Kalyug he stepped again as a grown up actor, and he did impress to say the least. His first movie did perform well, though after that ride has not been that good for him. Though movies like Dhol, 99 are too good, spl 99, my very strong recommendation.

Javed Jaffrey: He is not just some unknown name, a very very respected name around, though not as famous. He is more known for his dancing skills than acting exploits, though I don't think that he is too far behind. Before advent of Prabhu Deva in BW, Javed was regarded as Indian MJ, his slick moves, style, and a way to carry himself were his highlights. Being from filmy family, son of famous Jagdeep aka Soorma Bhopali, he should have had easy way inside, but that was not the case. After a very impressive hit debut in Meri Jung in 1985, where he played villain, ride has never been smooth for him at least in BW world. There have been movies here and there, after time gaps, like 100 days. Even after 25 years of his debut, he has a sort of freshness in his acting which impresses me to no end. Though recently he had a mega successful show Boogie Woogie, though nowdays there are shit load of dance shows, but he was the visionary who started these competitions. Even in acting, his movies like Gang, Dhamaal, Singh is Kinng, Paying guests, he has been great. In so many movies like Gang and Salam Namaste he was the only highlight of the movie,eggjhactly.. remember? Dhamaal is one movie of his I can watch anytime, he was just phenomenal in the movie playing Manav.

Vishal Malhotra: Started his career from TV serials like disney hour, Hip hip horray, was noticed and loved by a whole lot of teenager fans. Again, not so easy ride in BW though. His first movie was Ishk Vishk, which was also a first for a lot of people, Ken Ghosh, Amrita Rao, Shehnaz, and Shahid Kapoor. But among all the noobs, I think Vishal literally stole the show while playing the loser friend. But even that kinda performance didn't result in any big break, he still continued to play bit parts in movies. Kismat konnection (again with Shahid) and recently his Jaane kahan se aayi hai are the movies with Vishal in amazing form. Be emotional, serious or comedy scenes, this guy is always at the top of the things. From cheesy dialogues to double meaning lines to emotional scenes, Vishal seems to do all with a smile. Truly one of the better but lesser known actors around.

Kay kay: There can not be a movie where he is there and you didn't absolutely love his performance. There have been movies like Mumbai meri jaan, Silsile, Sarkar, where he showed his serious side, then movies like Honeymoon travels, Main meri patni, where he portrayed character with lighter shades. He is one of the best actors of BW, if not the best, but surely better than all stars out there. I personally became a fan of his after watching a very very nice movie, Chhal. This is again a great thing about him, not only his acting is always the best, but you can be pretty sure about the movie as well, that Kay Kay will only do better movies. Strangers, again his gem, is again one of my recommendations to those of you who missed. His monologue in the movie Shaurya, was no way any lesser than Jack Nicholson in A few good men, and that itself is a stamp of his skills. I can run out of the space recommending his movies, but at least see all of the ones I mentioned, if not all of his.

Shreyas Talpade: He is my favorite in BW right now. Absolutely nothing that he can not do. You throw him the role, and he will deliver a knock out performance. He has been the sole reason I have seen so many movies, even OSO, I did not see it for its promos, SRK or whatever but Shreyas, and he has never disappointed me, I may or may not like the movie, Shreyas has never put a foot wrong. And for those who don't know much about him, he is not exactly a noob, he is a star of Marathi thetaer and cinema, and you can see the reason when you see him on screen. He literally can make any movie watchable just for him. Iqbal was his first Hindi movie, and those who haven't seen it, its a shame, you must. Apna sapna money money further added to his rep, but Welcome to Sajjanpur truly showed his talent. Workin with Shyam Benegal he delivered one of the finest satire movies of the decade, yes much much much better than Peepli Live. But movie that I think is his best till date is Dil Dostti etc, a movie on campus life  of Delhi University, jut soars above so called buddy movies like 3I and DCH and all. Showing the real mettle of his talent, Shreyas just sweeps over all his audience. If that was not enough, in OSO< he actually was better than Shahrukh. Movies like golmaal return, aagey se right, are watchable only for his acting. When Sharman had quit Golmaal, I thought it would be tough for anyone to take his place, but Shreyas did, and in an impeccable way. Recently I saw his mvie, Help, and even there he was the best out there though the movie was actually good, but still went un noticed.  Must watch for horror movie fans.
