From the Buzzine review:
ReplyDeleteFrom that perspective, beyond the novelty of Akash and Kiara meeting each other, Anjaana Anjaani makes no effort to reinvent the wheel that is cheesy romantic comedy cinema, and that is perfectly fine, especially with sparks flying between Ranbir and Piggy Chops in their first on-screen pairing.
Beyond that, Bollywood films appear to be becoming more savvy in presenting lavishly rich and well-chosen locales serving as sleek and polished backdrops. With San Francisco and Las Vegas starring in this film, Anjaana Anjaani is no exception. While the cinematography is indeed above average in this film, it is offbeat enough where some audiences will not be sure how to appreciate it.
Performance-wise, with solid chemistry between the two, it is hard to really find anything negative to say about Ranbir or Piggy Chops. Accordingly, we will leave good enough alone and give kudos to both for better-than-decent performances. If anything, both have set themselves up for memorable performances in later productions, and Anjaana Anjaani will be considered the film that started it all.
Funny that Taran Tweeted he saw it but we have no review. Is he going to kill the film?
ReplyDelete"the film that started it all" ?? LOL, what? Priyanka has won awards for Fashion and RK has never really been considered a bad actor.
ReplyDeleteThis film being any kind of benchmark for performances from them is something I doubt very much.
I am hopeful the movie will do good, lets see.
ReplyDeleteOMG OMG OMG, I'm sure Khanabadosh will appreciate this!
ReplyDeleteZayed Khan is in this movie!!
But Zayed Khan has been busier than ever, quietly doing his work, which also includes a cameo in Anjaana Anjaani. "Sajid (Nadiadwala), the producer of the film, is family to me and was very keen on working with me. It started off being a cameo, but now it's something else. I play Priyanka's lover. It's a modern-day triangle and my role is pivotal to the film. Postponing the release was a great move as there was too much happening with the Commonwealth Games and the Babri Masjid verdict," says Zayed.

Note to filmmakers after watching Anjana Anjani: Stars + styling + foreign locations do not = film

ReplyDeleteAnjaana Anjaani: Ranbir & Priyanka spend the entire film trying to kill themselves. In the end they don't. But you will want to.
Khalid Md:
ReplyDeleteFrequently, overacting can be mistaken for good acting. Sorry but Priyanka Chopra goes over-the-top so often that she grates on the nerves. One of the most cherished waeapons of an artiste’s craft is to be still and listen to what the other person is saying in the course of a scene. Ms Chopra appears to be unaware of that nicety, always nodding, blinking, batting lashes or pouting to make her presence felt.
Inevitably, the show or whatever there is of it, belongs entirely to Ranbir Kapoor. He’s restrained and believable, often enhancing the material with his eye language and alternately gung-ho and gentle dialogue delivery.
But for that performance, you’re likely to forget Anjaana Anjaani as soon as the lights come on in the auditorium. Truly, it’s more anjaana than fiction.
Anjaana Anjaani had a good weekend of 24 crore nett as per early estimates. The film had a troubled weekend in that Friday was affected with bandhs and release disputes and then Sunday it took a hit in its best area Delhi NCR due to the commonwealth games. The film lost around 1.50 crore nett due to release problems and commonwealth games.
ReplyDeleteThe film will be a big earner for makers as costs are pretty low and the film has earned well from satellite and music while overseas has also contributed well. The Indian theatrical business will depend on what happens on the weekdays at the multiplexes. Mumbai, Delhi/UP and East Punjab have fared best. In the South it had huge competition in the form of Endhiran and the CP CI Rajasthan belt suffered from release problems.
The daily breakdowns were 7.25 crore for Friday, 8.75 crore for Saturday and 8 crore nett for Sunday. Sunday suffered mainly as collections in Delhi/UP and East Punjab dropped due to the commonwealth games while rest of the country was slightly lower but that is normal after a holiday.
