What happened in Gujarat in 2002 was reprehensible but most of the people listen to only one side of story (whatever they want to listen). This picture became so famous that his life became hell. He was invited to live in Kolkatta http://www.hinduonnet.com/fline/fl2017/stories/20030829006101100.htm http://www.mukto-mona.com/Articles/ajoy/kutubuddin.htm
But after sometime he came back to Ahmedabad which is rarely reported.
Kb, media's coverage about anything is very screwed up, its more to do with attention span of audience than anything. Why just Gujrat riots, ven CWG, now suddenly the most important thing is corruption in Paki team, not CWG authorities.
and Guj riots coverage is very very one sided, like they are operating with an agenda. I am not syaing that nothing wrong happened, but CM of that place, one who is labelled as murderer, is getting elected again and again, and the state is seeing some real boom in economy, so he must have done something right.. righ? Its just logical...
This documentary is NOT biased. No wonder it was banned in India because it speaks the truth. Modi´s managment of Gujarat is exemplary. But its also true that he turned a blind eye to the murder of Muslims in the riots. You can check by yourself how Modi is minimizing the damage caused to Muslims in the riots - both in terms of numbers of deaths and discrimination faced by muslims which followed the riots.
As for BJP winning elections over and over I think it goes without saying that overal Gujaratis are happy with his managment of the state. But I´m not sure if he´d stay as CM had the riot victims been Hindus instead of Muslims. Sad but true.
There is certainly dereliction of duties on part of both State and Center Govt (They should have acted fast instead of leaving upto Modi). But no one goes and just kills for fun. There has to be some bottled anger which is normally given fire by politicians. Modi won the first election based on that but I think second was more closely contested and he won on development.
Even in Delhi Riots of 84, where toll was much higher, there was anger in majority community which Congress people directed in particular way. And Rajiv Gandhi won a landslide after that.
The point is politicians will do anything to get votes.
KB and Rajiv, TBH I am not well versed with Gujrat political scenario, but Hardy/Neo and few of my Gujrati friends said that there was a lot of anger and frustrations in Hindus in Gujrat, then Godhra happened, which was more like a like the last straw.
I do not know about Modi's political manifesto, but I don't think that he was directly involved as Congress was in 84. Modi didn't react to the situation, OFC for his personal gains, but not like he started the riots. Agian, I could be wrong.
Congress on the other hand started the riots after sweets were distributed on streets when Indira Gandhi was assassinated. Sajjan Kumar and Titler led from front, and these were no bit part karyakartas, but big time leaders of Congress, future Prime Miniterial candidates at one point of time.
Again, me not knowing about Modi and role of BJP can be due to my ignorance, but 84 I know very well, more because of me being from city, and people around me witnessing the carnage around.
But there can be no justification of these gruesome acts, because at the end of the day, only innocent people die. Kids, women, are the ones paying the price looters and criminals just get excuse to do whatever.
Also, 84 situation was very different, militancy in Punjab was at an alltime high, there are countless videos on youtube which scare the crap out of people. At the same time Indira herself was a dictator kinds, she never cared for law in the first place, else why she would have created Bhindrawal?
There had been rumors in some quarters that had Khalistan been formed, Bhindrawal would have taken the position of 11th Guru of Sikhism. Even now he is called Saint Bhindrawal, with his picture in the golden temple and our PM visited the place and paid respect to a guy categorized as a terrorist, and seen as a man responsible for deaths of 1000s of innocent people.
But getting back to the discussion, I think what KB has said is absolutely right, these political parties can do whatever to get a few more votes.

if Rajiv is a Gujarati hindu he should know riots in Gujarat is nothing new . infact it must be a record that Gujarat has never seen a riot incident in last 7-8 yrs .
Modi acted in 48-72 hrs of riots and it was nearly stopped after 2-3 days also there are many lies in media which r raised up only when some other election is coming . Congress fears Modi most and u can see that how they target him from various sources .
But Anon, one this is for sure that you can not treat Modi as a saint. i am not denying that it never happened in Gujrat before, neither am I saying that media coverage is not biased, but he is not blameless. He has a part to play in whatever happened, how much, how, what, these are debatable, but he is one of the culprits as well.
Just as two wrongs never make a right, earlier riots do not absolve Modi.
Having said al that, I think he is working out for the majority at least, even if not whole of Gujrat, and fortunately or unfortunately, thats what happens in democracy.
I am not denying riots happening in the past r development of Muslims, but how about the fact that he didn't really try to stop them? It is said all the time that things could have been stopped before they escalated to such heights. They were allowed to TBH. And someone should be blamed for that, and I think thats Modi.
He could have acted fast enough, but he chose not to. For whatever reasons, personal or political.
And also, is rate of literacy in Muslim community rising as fast as in Hindu community?
Also how about the vengeful acts of terror because of that? How our neighbors use the incident to their advantage and try to rile up Muslim community, and at times successfully.
Was that political or personal gain so important that India is now targetted by Muslim terrorists because of Gujarat riots. Hate breeds hate, Gujrat riots were not a solution to any problem, if anything, it just created more problems for the nation, and yes, Modi is to be blamed as well for that.
no with past history of riots i just want to show its difficult to stop it even if one wanted . the idea of riots could have stopped and Modi not doing anything is Media/Congress created.
i dont have that data but it was mentioned recently that of all states Gujarat has maximum Muslim literacy rate which is against what is claimed that Gujarat is not a place for Muslims .
also just like u can say gujarat riots is being used to terror from other side , are the burning of those 57 innocent people not enough to anger people of a state ?
Where did you see it from, Rajiv?

Every CM/PM during riots anywhere has to be blamed but no one in history has been able to stop riots . its easier said than done .
ReplyDeleteand the idea of Muslim not getting benefits of development is wrong too . Muslim literacy , growth rate is highest in Gujarat .
I am not denying riots happening in the past r development of Muslims, but how about the fact that he didn't really try to stop them?
