Today is a lesson in the ridiculousness that is the desi media.  Mid-day (and later Bollywood Hungama, who stole their story) came up with the "news" that the German government would be funding 3 million Euros (about 18 Crore rupees!) for Don 2.  I imagine more sites and TV channels will now copy this and spread it around.

So what's the real news then? The German government will be funding 550,000 Euros (about 3 crore rupees). I can see how the dummies aka "journalists" confused 3 crore rupees with 3 million Euros. For comparison's sake, Tom Cruise's Knight & Day received 300,000 Euros so what Don 2 is getting is still huge but not to the extent the Indian media made up.

Here is the OFFICIAL press release by "Medienboard Berlin Brandenburg," the governmental board that is responsible for film funding in Berlin.  You have to know German though or use Google Translate!

SRK was on all the German news channels! :D Here's a video of them showing his jumping stunt:

SRK has arrived in Berlin and German newspapers have already started printing pics--

SRK jumps from 300 ft

We recently reported that Arjun Rampal is not a part of Farhan Akhtar’s Don 2 anymore. The buzz is that Arjun asked for a huge fee which didn’t go down well with the producers. As a result Arjun opted out of the film. Arjun played Pran’s character Jasjeet in the remake of Don.

The latest is that the Rang De Basanti actor Kunal Kapoor has been roped in to play the part.

Kunal confirms, “I am very excited about the role, as well as being part of a huge franchise like Don. And the fact that I get to share screen space with SRK makes it twice as exciting.”

Ritesh Sidhwani confirms that Kunal is doing an important role in the film but he denies that he has replaced Arjun Rampal.

Says Ritesh, “Kunal hasn’t replaced Arjun in the film. There is no Jasjeet in the film. Instead we have introduced three new parts in the film and Kunal plays one of them and Lara Dutta plays the second one. We still have to cast for the third character. From the original cast we have Shah Rukh Khan, Priyanka Chopra, Boman Irani and Om Puri. When did we say that Arjun was part of Don 2?” he questions.

Apparently, Farhan and Arjun developed creative differences over the latter’s role in the sequel and chose to part ways mutually.

Unlike most ‘separations’ of this kind in Bollywood, this one seems quite amicable. Our source said, “Arjun and Farhan are extremely close to each other. Arjun’s character in Don was an integral one and was appreciated by everyone.

After Don, Arjun worked in Rock On with Farhan’s company and his role received a lot of critical praise. Arjun was quite excited about working in the sequel to Don. But on account of some problems cropping up at the script level, Arjun and Farhan have parted ways.”

Well, one thing is for sure: Arjun’s character stays in the sequel but it will have a new face now. The team of the film is now hunting for a suitable replacement for Arjun. The iconic role of Jasjit, played by legendary character artiste Pran, was essayed by Arjun in the remake of the original.

Likewise, the film will see a number of new faces in its sequel. When contacted, the spokesperson of Excel Entertainment said, “Don 2 embarks on a new journey and the script requires some fresh characters to be introduced. This means that there will be new actors playing these parts.” Arjun Rampal remained unavailable for comment.

Wonder what dawned on him.

  2. Just a while ago Faridoon S tweeted that Arjun Rampal had admitted to being out of Don 2!!! I find it hard to believe - unless the story totally focuses on conflict between Don and Priyanka!

  3. I'm glad if it's true. I never liked the idea of keeping the same cast for Don 2. They should leave behind all the baggage and move to new characters with a new story entirely. I didn't even want Priyanka in it.

  8. Regarding the German funding article, just goes to show how silly even all the box office experts are, IMO. Going by media articles about budgets, funding, print & publicity costs and then fighting over a few crores to declare if a film is a hit of flop.... what a waste of time when the numbers of all those things have a huge chance of being completely false. The different media outlets just copy from each other. They don't even verify anything or have their own sources. Nor do they credit which source they originally got the story from. Just blatant copying without attributing to anyone. All that while making fun of Bollywood films that plagiarize. What irony.

And yes, I'm referring to the ridiculous My Name is Khan box office fights.
