National Award results (2009)

New Delhi: Malayalam film "Kutty Srank" has got the National Award for best film while Amitabh Bachchan bags his third National Award for his performance in "Paa", it was announced in new Delhi on Wednesday.

Rituparno Ghosh got the National Award for best director for the film "Abohoman", filmmaker Ramesh Sippy told journalists while announcing the 57th National Film Awards. The film also got Ananya Chatterjee the best actress award.

The blockbuster hit "3 Idiots", starring Aamir Khan, has been declared the most popular film providing wholesome entertainment.

Amitabh Bachchan has earlier won National Awards for "Agneepath" and "Black".

The Rachel Getting Married actress will join Academy President Tom Sherak to announce this year’s Oscar nominations on Feb. 2.

Hathaway and Sherak will reveal nominees in 10 of the 24 categories for the most coveted award in film.

The press conference will be held at 8:30 a.m. ET at the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences’ Samuel Goldwyn Theater in Beverly Hills and aired live.

Cinematographer V K Murthy has been chosen for the Dada Saheb Phalke Award for the year 2008.

The award is conferred annually by the Government of India [ Images ] for outstanding contribution to films. This is the first time that a cinematographer has been selected for this award.

Murthy is credited with providing some of Indian cinema's most breathtaking visual moments in classics like Guru Dutt's Kagaz Ke Phool, Sahib Biwi Aur Ghulam, Baazi, Jaal, Chaudavin Ka Chand, Pyasa, 12 O'Clock and Ziddi. In fact, he has worked in most of Guru Dutt's movies.

He also partnered for Pakeezah and Razia Sultan.
