Now after trailers and reviews, most important is BO, and they say numbers never lie....
We trust only BOI, so will post numbers only from there, unless our in house BO experts have any objection...
Khatta Meetha is a big disappointment Overseas. One of Akshay Kumar's lowest openers in UK, USA, and Australia
Scroll down below for more details.
Lamhaa had a poor first week of around 8 crore nett. The film was rejected from day one due to lack of entertainment. FLOP
Tere Bin Laden picked up after a slow start to gross around 5.25 crore nett in week one. The film was steady on weekdays.
Udaan also picked up after a slow start and managed to do around 2.25 crore nett business in week one.
The English version of Hollywood film Inception did good business. Places like Bangalore were phenomenal. All versions of Inception grossed around 9 crore nett.
Khatta Meetha performed below expectations on day one with nett business in the 6.50-6.75 crore range. The business was very good in Maharashtra and CP Berar due to the local flavour in the film but at other places the opening was average. CP Berar grossed a very good 45 lakhs. Territories like Delhi/UP, East Punjab, CI and Rajasthan where normally Akshay Kumar films perform best were below the mark. Delhi/UP did business of 1.25 crore nett, East Punjab was 56 lakhs nett, CI did 24 lakhs nett and Rajasthan was 35 lakhs nett.
It now remains to be seen how it goes over the weekend but it seems that business for the weekend is heading to be in the 20-22 crore nett range. Distributors paid pretty big prices in most circuits and will struggle to recover their money and even overall Indian theatrical business is not looking great. Mumbai circuit alone was sold for 10 crore.

Even below Veer? Hmm, I feel that this film is going down. It is time for Akshay Kumar to have a career makeover.
ReplyDeleteKhatta Meetha did decent business of around 22.75 crore nett over its first weekend. The approx daily breakdowns were 6.75 crore nett on Friday, 7.75 crore nett on Saturday and 8.25 crore nett on Sunday.
ReplyDeleteThe film showed a good pick up at metro multiplexes on Saturday but at the single screens where it had opened well on Friday the collections were lower. On Sunday metro multiplexes were similar to Saturday but single screens were higher. Maharashtra has fared best followed by Gujarat, Circuits like Bengal, Nizam and Mysore are on the lower side comparatively.
Overall its a decent weekend and the weekday business will decide where the film is going. The weekend business was slightly higher than the last Akshay Kumar and Priyadarshan film De Dana Dhan but at that time 22-23 crore nett weekend was regarded good for a big release and today its around the 27-28 crore nett mark.
The territory breakdowns are as follows.
Mumbai - 9 crore
Delhi/UP - 4.50 crore
East Punjab - 1.90 crore
West Bengal - 1 crore
Bihar - 50 lakhs
CP Berar - 1.40 crore
CI - 80 lakhs
Rajasthan - 1.10 crore
Nizam - 1.05 crore
Mysore - 1 crore
Others - 50 lakhs
TOTAL - 22.75 crore

Major disappointment!
ReplyDelete- By Taran Adarsh, July 28, 2010 - 08:44 IST
KHATTA MEETHA has emerged a major disappointment in key international markets. Post NAMASTEY LONDON, Akshay Kumar's movies have opened to a fantastic response in the two major markets - U.K. and U.S.A. But KHATTA MEETHA, shockingly, is Akshay's lowest opener [post NAMASTEY LONDON] in U.K. as well as U.S.A. [see chart below]. In fact, the screen avaerage is lower than TASHAN and CHANDNI CHOWK TO CHINA too, which are considered box-office disasters. The film has recorded below average collections in Australia too… Punjabi film MEL KARADE RABBA is faring very well in Australia and is steady in U.K.
Weekend: July 23 - 25, 2010.
U.K. BOX-OFFICE
* KHATTA MEETHA has debuted at No. 12 position. In its opening weekend, the film has collected £ 1,22,064 [approx. Rs. 88.92 lacs] on 36 screens, with the per screen average working out to £ 3,391.
U.S.A. BOX-OFFICE
* KHATTA MEETHA has debuted at No. 19 position. In its opening weekend, the film has collected $ 3,09,211 [approx. Rs. 1.44 crores] on 83 screens, with the per screen average working out to $ 3,725.
AUSTRALIA BOX OFFICE
KHATTA MEETHA has debuted at No. 18 position. In its opening weekend, the film has collected Aus. $ 63,913 [approx. Rs. 26.94 lacs] on 11 screens, with the per screen average working out to Aus. $ 5,810.

Most probably this will barely make 35 crs opening weekend, and should wrap around 45 or so, before 50 I think. Major disappointment though the movie is saved due to its low costs, I think it will emerge as below average, or even average, though disappointing for sure.
ReplyDeleteKhaata Meetha had a poor Monday as it recorded only 3 crore nett business. The drop is 55% from Friday which would be considered good if the Friday was good but as drop has not come from a high level the Monday collections are well below the mark.
ReplyDeleteThe film collected poorly all over be it multiplexes and single screens, even performance in Maharashtra single screens where it was doing best was poor. The film has grossed 25.75 crore nett in four days. The trending suggests the week is looking to finish in the 31-32 crore nett region.
The film still should become an average fare as long as it does not completely crash over the second weekend. Lifetime business may come in at around 40 crore nett.

Ok I stand corrected, lifetime business around 40 crs :D
ReplyDeletethe movie may become hit at 45+ . it all depend on DS . and in case the majority of buisness comes from single screen DS increases. Km will be giving a DS of 21 cr by 1st week which covers the cost od distributor . from there on it will be profit for KM.
ReplyDeleteJust dont blindly follow any BO website .
BOI has changed many verdicts after change of ownership in 2002 . this itself shows how unbiased they are
Iam posting some old links of BOI . now check the latest verdicts . u will get to knw how they have changed the verdicts
http://web.archive.org/web/20031001201451/boxofficeindia.com/topfive.htm
http://web.archive.org/web/20040115133258/http://boxofficeindia.com/topfive.htm
check these verdicts and the new ones , u'll get to knw that they are biased
Why would change of verdict mean BOI is biased? Biased for whom and against whom? It seems like they reduced the take of several SRK films, so they must certainly be biased against him.
ReplyDeleteKhatta Meetha cannot get any favors from the press though. A drop of 55% is now a poor Monday? Most films of Akki's probably had that kind of drop but were not written off so early.
Khatta Meetha dropped again on Tuesday with around 2.25-2.50 crore nett business on Tuesday. The business was 20-25% lower than Monday.
ReplyDeleteThis takes the films five day business to around 28 crore nett and the film is likely to add another 3-3.50 crore for a weekly total of 31-31.50 crore nett.
The second weekend looks set to struggle as trending is bad and there will be competition from Once Upon A Time and that film is expected to fare best in the same region (Maharashtra) that Khatta Meetha is doing its best best business.

Khatta Meetha has grossed 31.50 crore nett approx in week one. The film had a good to decent weekend but collections were poor on weekdays.
ReplyDeleteThere has been a huge reduction of shows at multiplexes with most major multiplexes giving it 4-5 shows and with single screens showing drops on weekdays, it does not look good for the second week. The second week may only bring in 6-7 crore nett business.
The distributor share for week one is 17.50-18 crore. The film is likely to finish in the 21-22 crore range.
