We Are Family had a below average start to its first Friday, this was probably due to fact that the film had seen a partial Thursday release which was a holiday and collections tend to fall after holidays.
Also the first few shows on Friday are mainly dominated by the youth which is not the target audience for We Are Family.
The film may have better collections in the evening with Saturday and Sunday being very important for its long term theatrical business. The reports are mixed with certain segments of the audience liking and others not.
As expected, nothing too surprising, WAF took low opening, won't even cross sunday I guess.
ReplyDeleteWe are family wont cross 20 cr in its full run.
ReplyDeleteWeekend US gross: $335,354

I think it's pretty decent for this type of movie. All due to Kajol, IMO
We Are Family took a hit on Monday as collections fell all over. The Monday collections were in the 1.25 crore nett region taking the four day business of the film to nearly 15.50 crore nett.
ReplyDeleteThe drop was around 60% from Friday but Friday itself was not that good. We Are Family will do around 18 crore nett business over its first week which is okay but the problem is it will have little screen space in week two due to the release of Dabangg.
This will limit the business of We Are Family in week two and it is likely the lifetime business of We Are Family will end around the 21-22 crore nett mark.

After a decent weekend, pretty nasty fall. Don't know what was the budget of the movie, but it won't touch 20 crs. KJo continues to mess up with audience expectations I think, wonder how long his brand will last for...
ReplyDeleteI don't think it's so bad for a female dominated movie with no male star. With TV revenues and other things being added in, I think the time has come now when directors and producers can take the chance to make movies with women in the lead. You'd hope they are better than We are Family, though, but it's still a start.
ReplyDeleteWAF will recover, but much profits per se.
ReplyDeleteNot Much*
ReplyDeleteThats true, Aisha and now WAF, it shows women are having more and more say in movie watching. And both movies also were targeted at totally different age groups, hence I think that women of India has certainly been more vocal about their choices and opinion, not just youth.
ReplyDeleteBut sadly the quality has not been upto the mark, hence they have struggled to make any major impact.
