  2. Exactly who looks on John as a role model? That person needs to beaten up and locked away, they are not fit to roam free in society.

Come on, you´re being harsh on John. The guy isn´t the best actor in the industry but he lives an exemplary life. He´s academically very educated, doesn´t smoke or drink, doesn´t do drugs, is good looking and doesn´t get involved in spats with celebrities. And John has a cult fan following, so he might be referring to his special fans when he talks about his image of a role model.

  4. His prime job is being an actor - that is why my judgment is harsh. He should go back to being a ramp model and I will laud his career choice.

  9. And I was going to post yesterday but it got lost in all the login :)

If a celebrity is guilty then they should be punished. They are celebrity with all the coverage and have expensive lawyers to defend them. Think of a common man with same crime and his problems would be manifold.
But yes minor crimes should have community service kind of deal. Multiple minor crimes should put you in jail.

  10. Khanabadosh should know all about the Zayed fans ;-)

Actually I am mindful that the sentence may be harsh for poor John, specially when other actors are roaming free after having commit more egregious crimes. I was mostly taking a pot-shot at the role model bit. Not many actors are good role models and they should not worry overmuch about that.

  11. I think role model should be some one in family or one who has over achieved in their field. Actors as role models is not a good idea. But I must say that John is much more affable and down to earth than other stars.

I am not sure how to have definite opinion about stars who have done wrong things when they were wrong and have become decent person after some time. And also we must consider there are people who have done wrong things in life it is just that they are not caught.

  12. You are absolutely right KB. John is an affable man, but does he excel at what he does? Has he over-achieved?

This is a bigger question - do we value affability over real talent and drive? I would say that if one wants to succeed in life at what they do then Aamir is a better role model than John any day, no matter how he may or may not get along with people. If one wants to be decent towards people, and have a low level of success then go for John as a role model.
